Monsters and Margins

(2020 - 2021) A series of site specific spray paintings and projections created during the COVID-19 pandemic lockdowns.

Monsters and Margins explores the connection between landscapes at the periphery and the figures of otherness created and adopted by our culture. Conceived during long wandering walks, my imagination conjured the monsters from a childhood of remembered films, implanting them into the wildernesses and wastelands of Essex, so that Michael Myers might materialise between the brake lights of the A13, or Pennywise could lurk in the drainage ditches beneath the M25. This series of pandemic subversions evokes the risk and adventure of childhood, while investigating our most basic of fears …where the wild things are.
