Carriageway Creature-Features

(2018) A series of screen prints on fabric merging the landscape of the A13 with monsters from 1950s B-movies.

Exploring notions of remembered film and the passing of images, this work imagines a viewer driving home from the cinema - perhaps a drive-in movie. Their motion through the landscape and the rhythmic passage of the roadside reawakens the cinematic motor of the film from their memory, encouraging those fantasies to flicker into the real, so that Godzilla might be seen towering over the slip road to Tilbury or King Kong could be glimpsed dissolving between the telegraph poles.
